About the Artist

Creating has always been essential to me, to who I am and who I am becoming. As with all artists, my art has evolved as I have grown, and it has often been a part of the growth. I find it exciting to be involved in artwork involving those things that are most important to me: creating (ART), God’s Word (SCRIPTURE), and faith-community (WORSHIP). It is my hope that my artwork will touch hearts, and will be encouraging and life-giving to others.

For as long as I can remember, I have loved creating. This creativity has found various expressions over the years. Without a formal backgroud in art, a lot of my artwork is intuitive and/or learn as you do. For quite some time, I have done artwork by commission or request in a variety of media. This has included pieces of liturgical art for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, a school banner, etc. In addition, I have designed and executed a number of notecards, posters, booklet covers, and other items.

Recently, I have concentrated on prints–silkscreened and other–often done on fabric, usually stretched and sometimes framed. Often the print is hand-lettered also, usually with scripture. For over thirty years, I have created special and unique tissue banners each Advent. I have been exhibiting and selling this work in a number of venues and exhibit throughout the Milwaukee area as well as in other cities. I have also given a number of talks (with slides) about God’s working in my life, especially relating to my artwork.

I grew up in St. Paul, MN, and came to Milwaukee for college. My undergraduate college background is a B.S. degree from Marquette University in mathematics. Upon graduation from college, I spent a year teaching in Belize (Central America) as a lay missioner. I then worked at Rufus King High School in Milwaukee, married a year after I returned, and taught until our first child was born. My husband is a retired Milwaukee Public Schools teacher/librarian, ski instructor and tennis coach. We have four children, and have informally added another Iranian “son” whom we hosted for three years, plus now a son-in-law and grandson. We have always been an active family with many interests. Our family has hosted a number of exchange students and visitors, and our three sons have each spent a year abroad as AFS exchange students.

One of my other involvements is our parish. I have gone through a lay ministry formation program, have been active in many areas of the church, and am presently working with our Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults team. I have completed my master’s degree from Alverno, and I have retired from teaching in the mathematics department at Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC).
